A fun layout & a BIG SALE!!!

Happy Friday, friends!  Missy here.  Before we get to my share for the week, you simply must know about this AMAZING sale going on this weekend in the store!  It has already started....so head on over and stock up on some amazing scrappy goodness!!

Here's my layout for the week :)  I created this one for a challenge over on our forums to use different patterned papers to back a hole left by a die cut.  I chose to cut a really big circle cut from my Cameo, but you could also use punches or even cut them with scissors.  I went through my old stash of Glitz papers (this is the Wild & Free collection) and picked out colors that would look good up against that gorgeous background paper.  I just traced the circles onto the patterned paper and then cut them out slightly larger so I'd have room to add glue around the edges.  It's a really easy process...it just takes  a little time.  I'm very pleased with how it turned out!

Since there are so many patterns & colors, I really didn't think it needed a lot of embellishing.  I added a little sticker & rhinestone cluster here on the photo.

I also added this fun heart diecut below the picture and title, and I added a few more rhinestones, stickers and washi tape, and it was complete.

I hope this inspires you to get lots of patterns into your page by using die cuts like this.  Get creative with it....you'll be surprised at how fun this process is!

And don't forget to check out the SALE!!  WOO HOO!

Have a GREAT weekend!

That's My Boy

For those of you that have a boy this is a must have collection.  Echo Park created the That's My Boy collection and it fits boys to a tee.  It contains a little bit of everything from our love for them, to their obsession with video games, to their wild side.  This page is about my fearless son Austin.

Look at all the fun sayings that come with the collection.

Celebrate!

Hey there scrappy friends!
Hope you are having a wonderful Wednesday so far.
I created a layout using the Simple Stories Sea To Shining Sea collection. I LOVE IT! The colors are fabulous!
We spent the later part of the morning and all afternoon with friends at the lake on July 4th. What a blast! We are planning on doing it again next year.
Here is my layout:

Here are a few close ups:

I used a star stencil and added some light modeling paste:

I punched the anchor/heart out of one of the patterned papers and added some stick pins from my stash..

I fussy cut part of the flags to give some movement to my layout and popped the banner up with foam tape.

Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday!

The Treasure of a Friend.

Hello and good morning...

One thing that I am always concerned about as a parent, are the friends that my kids are friends with. Luckily, they have chosen well, and so it's fun to see them progress and grow together.

I used the Fancy Pants Me-ology collection for this page of my daughter and her friend at her 5th grade promotion.  I decided to use the distressed Painterly paper for my background, but add black cardstock underneath, so I can tear it open to expose parts of it, to add a bit of boldness in the back.

I actually used pretty minimal embellies on the page, a few enamel dots and stickers.

But I added one of the library card pockets on the page, for my title work and journaling.

I also used a TON of washi tapes, in all colors and patterns. This collection is sooo colorful, you can pull almost anything and it just seems to work together.

Thanks sooo much for stopping by and have a great day!!!

What's on your Creative Agenda???

The LAST challenge for the Got Talent contest was posted on Thursday.  12 weeks, 24 challenges, tons of inspiration!!!  You still have until August 31st to upload all your entries to the Flickr Gallery to win the Simple  Stories Good Day Sunshine collection!

The last challenge was to cut a photo into a shape other than a square or rectangle.

I put my 4x6 photo against a scrap of 6x6 paper and cut into 4 parts to trim the dead space from my photo.  Then I used the scrap paper as a template to cut the patterned papers I used on my page. I used some washi tape to create a frame around my page.

Look at these ADORABLE good from the Jillibean Soup Halloween collections!!!!  I picked up some of those enamel stars for sure!!!  Check out the whole collection in the store HERE.

And just in TODAY is the Echo Park Creative Agenda collection!  This was on a lot of people's "Must Have" list!  A great, everyday line.  I LOVE the paper with the days of the week words!  Check it out HERE!

Happy / Heidi Swapp

Happy Friday, scrappers!  Missy here with you today :)  The layout I'm sharing today is one that focuses on using lots of embellishments.  This was for a challenge a few weeks ago on our boards.  The challenge was to completely surround a photo with embellishments.

I pulled out my big pack of Color Magic die cuts from Heidi Swapp and misted them with several colors of Color Shine.  They're solid white at first, and then the design on them resists the color.  I wanted a soft rainbow effect, and that's exactly what the Color Shines created here.  I layered them all around the photo to make it pop.  That is what I love about using black & white photos against bright colors.

I also love a "not-so-perfect" look to my pages, so I traced around everything with a black pen.  I wanted it kind of sketchy looking.  I also added some thread underneath the photo.

This was an experiment right here...I pulled out some vellum, some silver ink and a Jillibean Soup stamp.  It turned out really soft, which I like.  I did have to go over the silver ink with a silver pen to make it a tad darker, but I like the result.  I cut the word out and stamped the other part in black.  I also splattered a lot of the Color Shines everywhere, added some enamel shapes and some rhinestones.  And washi....don't forget about the washi! :)

One more angle of the layered shapes...layering is so fun and easy!

I hope this inspires you to use up your embellishments and somehow layer them around your photos. Experiment with pop dots...they really make a difference on your pages, too!

Thanks for stopping by :)

Slashing My Stash!!

I you visit us at the forum you have probably heard of our Slash Your Stash.  It is a just a way we work at trying to plow through some of the old scrappy supplies we tend to collect rather than use.  After all if I use up my old I don't feel so guilty about getting more :)  This month I already slashed an old Simple Stories collection and now I'm working on Carta Bella's Rough and Tumble collection.  I've already created 6 Project Life pages with it and this one traditional page. Now this isn't that old of a collection but I'm bad about putting things away shortly after I make 1-2 pages out of them and not touching them!

I love how well this collection works with a variety of subjects.  My project life pages had a younger look to them featuring my younger son and his wildness, but then I was able to use it for this page of my oldest at his 6th grade band concert and it didn't have the juvenile look.

Would love for you to come visit the forum and slash your stash with us.

Go Jump In The Lake!

Not really, that's just the title on my layout using a title block from the Simple Stories Under the Stars kit.

Happy Wednesday!
No really, this kit is so fun!
Here is a layout I created:

I love all the fun stickers and colors:

I also added a few My Mind's Enamel Dots, love those!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your day with us!

Go Big.

Hello and good morning...

Honestly I am in LOVE with the Fancy Pants Everyday Circus line. I know when I picked it out, that I didn't have ANY circus photos. We went years ago, but I don't even remember if I even took many. But I could see how versatile this collection was, and that it could really work with any themed photo.

I knew when I pulled the papers out, I went right for my son's baseball photos and wanted to dig in and scrap them with the papers.

I used several of the Label Stickers through the page along, with enamel dots.

I cut up the Big Top paper, and then added stitching around the edges and adding a few ink splats.

I also border punched the brick paper to add a bit of "grunge" to make the layout more "boy"

So if you can't see past this Everyday Circus collection being just for Circus photos, keep looking... It's there, you just have to let your mind wander a bit....

Thanks sooo much for stopping by and have a great day!!!

Happy Monday!

Happy Monday everyone!

This week marks the LAST WEEK of your 12 week Got Talent Contest!  I can't believe how fast the 12 weeks have gone by!  ALL ENTRIES MUST BE IN BY MIDNIGHT, AUGUST 31, EST, to be eligible for the Grand Prize of the Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine collection!

My challenge for this last week was to create a page that uses ONLY patterned paper (with the exception of one piece of cardstock for the background if desired).  This was  HUGE challenge for me!  It was really tough.  I used the Crate Paper Notes & Things collection for this page:

I even used patterned paper for my title.  I wrote the word "summer" backwards in cursive on the back of a piece of patterned paper and cut it out by hand!    Hope you can join us for the last challenges!

She Explores / Fancy Pants

Hello there, My Scraps fans!  It's Missy here with you today.  There is a new sketch up over on our Sketch Blog today, and it's a really cool one.  If you like a challenge, then this one is for you.  You can go check it out HERE for the full design team reveal.

The big arrow-type designs at the top and bottom are a big part of the sketch.  This design was definitely out of my comfort zone, but I went with it and tried to be creative.  I used papers & embellishments from the Me-Ology line from Fancy Pants.  I pulled out a 6x6 Crafter's Workshop template and some coordinating acrylic paints.   I took a small paint brush and simply painted inside the stencil to create this multi-colored grid on the top and bottom.  Once it was dry, I traced over each shape with a black pen to make it look a bit sharper.

I like the way the arrow shapes dry the eye to the photos in the center.  I layered a few papers, some washi tapes, a few die cuts, and some thread.

Layering is one of my favorite techniques.  I think every layout I create has some sort of layering on it, and this one is no exception.  I especially love making fun cuts with my Cameo to layer in, like the white circles here.  I also like the look of layering Thickers...on top of paper and on top of each other!

Another angle of the layering.  I love adding in embellishments once the layers are complete :)  Isn't this flair pin adorable?

Now up close you can see that the painting isn't perfect..  It smudged a lot, but I kind of like that it's messy.  I just decided to try something different, and I wound up liking the result.

I hope this inspires you to get out of your comfort zone and try something you're kind of hesitant to try.  I found the sketch a little intimidating at first, but once I got my arrows created, the rest was easy.  I hope you are able to get creative with the sketch!  Go HERE to see it!

You can also see what the rest of the team came up with....there are LOTS of different ideas!

Have a great weekend!

Missy :)

Going Embellie Crazy!

Most of the time I pick a collection based on the paper and then choose embellishments I like to go with it.  When I saw this Cloud 9 collection by Chic Tags it was the embellishments that caught my eye and then I chose the paper I wanted with the embellishments.  I really loved these clips.

I used a Creative Scrappers sketch to create this page of Autumn's birthday trip to the American Girl store in Dallas.

Here is a close up of some of the wonderful embellishments.

Fun In The Sun

Happy Wednesday peeps!
Today I am going to share a layout I made using the Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine collection, sketch #88 from the sketch blog and a Kreaxions Punch:

I added a few borders and some stitching. Here is a close up:

My kids enjoyed swinging from this rope at the lake on the 4th of July. I was across the lake taking the photos and had my big zoom lens on, plus I did a lot of cropping to bring them in closer.

Have a great day!

Photo Op.

Hello and good morning...

I was totally inspired from using the Fancy Pants Me-ology collection- all the fun, bright colors, the bold prints and mix of patterns. I used this photo of my husband and daughter at the father/ daughter dance for elementary school back in February. Something that she was really looking forward to.

As soon as I saw the Loving Life paper, I knew I had to cut the shapes right up.
I also decided to "get messy" with the page. I actually used my finger for the gesso, to spread it exactly to the places on the page I wanted to. Then added some misting on top.

I always love the fun Label Stickers, that seems to always have the perfect quotes to add on the page. Along with some border punching, added in layers

I felt like a fun page, also needed a fun font for the title, and used some of my AC Amy Tangerine thickers.

So make sure to check out the fun AND funky Me-ology collection... It's too fun to work with....

Thanks sooo much for stopping by and have a great day!!!!

Summer days are winding down!!!!

Oh my gosh I haven't even made a DENT in my summer photos yet!!!  We have been so busy with all kids of activities.  And there are some awesome collections that came out this summer, too.

I used the recent Crate Paper Notes & Things line for this page:

I used the direction of the lined background paper to inspire the "downward" motion of my page, echoed by the downward motion of my kiddos in the photos, too.  I added a few more additional triangles pointing down to add even more to this effect.  I machine stitched in each woodgrain triangle with yellow thread.

I wanted to keep the other elements to a minimum, so I just added a frame with some paper in the background for my journaling, and a brad and a sticker.

******************************Store News***********************

I have restocked some of the embellishments from the Pink Paislee Solstice collection and they will be here tomorrow!!  Check the store then!

Also, these two beautiful gold glitter papers from the American Crafts Shimelle collection just arrived!  The papers are very thick and the gold is just gorgeous!!!

Finally, the Echo Park Creative Agenda line is slated to ship out to me this week, so it should be up in the store early next week!  I am so excited about this collection!
