The Scary Dora Cake

Happy Saturday, friends!  Missy here with you today :)

Here's a page I created using last week's Sketch #57.  These pictures are from my little Paige's 2nd birthday.  I made a Dora cake...and she wound up looking a little demonic...haha.  As you can see, Paige wanted nothing to do with that cake.  Dora still tasted good, even if her eyes looked rather creepy!  Haha!

I used the new RSVP line from Basic Grey for this.  I added in some purple watercolor paint splatters here and there.  Purple is a hard color to scrap...especially when there are more than one shade of it.  I tried to pull in a few since there was some pinkish/purple in my photos.

I love these little flags!  Perfect for adding dimension with pop dots!

Lots of fun ephemera in this collection, too.  I added in the button and cord from my stash.  I love the pops of yellow!

These little letter stickers are perfect for titles, and there are some fun border stickers included, too!

Whooo's Cute?

The Glitz papers and die cuts from the new Finnley collection were just perfect for this page about my little guy in his owl hat .  Feathers=owls=perfect!

I love how the Glitz papers already look artsy...like I painted them!  But all I did was layer them and splatter a bit of white mist on the background.

There are a bunch of papers layered behind the photo, and some die cuts and stickers layered on top.  The largest feather is from the Finnley What Nots, and the smallest one is a wood veneer.  I inked it black and use a white pen for the spine.  The medium sized feather I simply cut free hand from paper and then used lots of little slits along the edges to create the feathery look.  I used a white pen down the middle of it, too!

I always try to balance my colors and elements on the page, so you will see the emerald green rhinestone in the top left, the same green "adorable" sticker on the photo, and the little green heart on the bottom right.

I added a bit of string behind the photo for some more texture and a little bit of machine stitching here and there.

Spread a little Joy

During the holiday season I love receiveing Christmas cards in the mail.  It is sad to see this tradition dying down.  I remember growing up and my moms wall being covered in cards.  Even when my husband and I first got married we used to have the whole countertop covered with cards in our dining room.  Now it seems I receive about five.  I do still send them out but not as many as I used to.  I will admit I take the easy route and have picture cards made usually of just the kids.  This year I challenge you to spread some joy.  Make a Christmas card and send it to someone.  Here is a card I made for the teacher I work with. I created this card using Glitz Hello December.

Jingle Bell Rocker

Hello and good morning...

It's that time of year when I get all caught up on all the past years of Christmas photos and scrapping them. With all the new Christmas line releases that come out at summer CHA, I pull from the previous years of Christmas photos and get them scrapped.

This photo was taken of my little one, almost two Christmases ago, when she was so little and new. I had picked out this outfit for Christmas and couldn't wait to dress her in it.

I used Chic Tags Christmas line for this layout. 

I LOVED the star woodgrain paper and decided to highlight it on the page:

I also used some of the hollys that were punched and added MME enamel dots for the centers:

December of the Month!

I am excited to announce our member of the month for December!
It is Peggy, known on the message board as Favoritegrandma.

Let's learn a little bit more about Peggy in her own words:

Hello! I was very honored when Lisa asked me to be December’s Member of the Month.

My name is Peggy Goehring. I was born and raised in South Dakota. My husband, Jim of 40 years and I have 2 daughters. Our oldest daughter and granddaughter live only minutes away and our youngest daughter and son-in-law live with us while their dream house is being built.

We lived in the Midwest until Jim’s retirement in 2002 and moved to Florida in 2003 to escape the cold winters. I am a SAHG – Stay At Home Grandmother – helping raise our favorite (and only) 10 year old granddaughter, Katie since she was 1 years old. We are very involved in her life, attending all her events at school and Church.

I started scrapping at age 9 when I needed to keep record books in 4-H and it progressed into scrapbooks. I have redone some of those books as they weren’t acid-free and mostly contained memorabilia instead of pictures. Some of the pictures were badly damaged, but I have been able to rescue the majority of them.

My scrappy style is all over the place, kind of eclectic I guess.

Things about me you may not know:

1) This is my second year as Katie’s classroom Grandma; the students call me “Miss Peggy” and/or “Grandma”.
2) We live 30 minutes from Walt Disney World and can hear the fireworks at night.
3) I have visited 47 of the 50 states – yet to visit are Alaska, Wisconsin and Michigan.
4) I painted Katie’s bedroom a mural of “Pixie Hollow” fairyland.
5) I have machine stitched and hand quilted over 50 quilts of different sizes – giving most of them away.

I am blessed to have found My Scraps & More – the design team is sooooo…. inspirational, the challenges and crops are the best. Thank you for all you do helping me tell my stories.
